About Jessica Breznau (Founder and Trainer, Seward Park, 6:30 & 7:45am):

Before starting Southside Booty Camp, Jessica was the Founder and Executive Director of Sister Communities, a local non-profit dedicated to fostering relationships amongst the diverse communities of the Puget Sound region. She created the All Nations Cup Festival which now hosts over 40 local soccer teams, representing their homelands in a tournament that is surrounded by food, music, and dance from around the world.

Jessica has been involved in several other soccer activities for many years and you can often see her around local fields. She currently coaches a girls soccer team for the Beacon Hill Soccer Club. She has also been a soccer referee for 7 years and has been playing since age 8. She lives in the Rainier Beach area and enjoys spending her free time in her garden. She holds a certification in Outdoor Action Fitness through the American Council for Exercise, has studied C.H.E.K. (Corrective High-Performance Exercise Kinesiology as created by Paul Chek) and functional fitness philosophy and is currently training with Russian Kettlebells.

For a couple years I was in and out of physical therapy for chronic back and hip pain. I had also gained weight due to the stress of putting on large events and emotional eating. Even though I loved soccer, I was playing less and less, because I had stopped taking care of my body. I worried that I would never be able to play again. I thought, maybe this is just what happens in your 30s!

Then I discovered Boot Camp style outdoor fitness. What an eye opener. It was the jump start I needed to get out of the spiraling cycles of unhealthy habits. I rediscovered that my body is strong and it likes and needs to be worked. It thanks me for daily exercise and pays me back in super abundant energy. Most amazing is that in a month my back and hip pain disappeared, not to mention the weight loss and gain in strength. Why didn’t I know about this sooner: that my muscles just needed to be worked in a balanced and consistent way in order to maintain a pain-free and active life.

I saw that fitness is not just losing weight to look good. Fitness means that whatever your size is, that you are strong and healthy. Losing weight was a goal of mine, but it soon became secondary as my muscles gained strength, a new body started emerging that gave me, yes – super cheesy – but, ‘a new lease on life’ … And of course a nicer booty!

My journey into fitness and health inspired me to create an opportunity for women in the South Seattle neighborhoods who also desire to reclaim their bodies as their own.

About Theresa Freeman (Trainer, Seward Park, 6am, 7:15am):

My love of sports started early on when at the age of 5 I started ballet and tap.  I pursued this all the way through high school earning my P.E. credit by leaving school early each day to head to the dance studio for class.  I started running at the end of high school after having participated in most of the other sports offered. It didn’t take long to figure out that running was an excellent boost for my mental health as well as my physical health and I have been going ever since.  There is nothing better for me then to get outside and let go of all my worries!  I’ve coached girls’ elementary/middle school soccer for nine years and have played in the local recreational leagues.  Over the last several years I’ve been incorporating yoga into my workout as well for the much needed stretching and meditation.

I have never been a gym or health club devotee and love doing things outside.  I am the mother of 3 and have had my kids out camping and hiking since they were only months old.  I love taking my fitness on the road and doing challenges like the Seattle Marathon, Capitol City Marathon or the Mt. Rainier to the Pacific Relay. I’ve done this relay a number of times and last summer I organized a team that included my daughters, their XC teammates, another mother and friends.  It was so wonderful to be able to experience that together (ages 14-50!) and show them that you can be fit at any age!

About Ellen McIlvaine (Volunteer Park Trainer, 6:15 & 7:30am):  ellen2

From a young age, I’ve been in love with movement.  Whether it was soccer or swimming, dancing or running, the sensation of free-flowing energy has brought me immeasurable joy.  In following this joy, I have traveled extensively in Asia where I discovered the power and focus in martial arts, yoga, chigong and mediation.  This experience has provided me with a unique view on the meaning of wellness, and as my definitions were challenged I found unhelpful expectations of myself crumbling around me.  Although burning calories is healthy, and surely slimming down feels great, there is a deeper meaning to movement that can bring peace and empowerment to our lives.  My continual goal is to merge these two sides of fitness to achieve overall strength and wellness.

I am passionate about maintaining physical and emotional balance whether it be on the mat, in the gym, on the mountain or in the park.  I work to heighten awareness of physical-emotional blocks in the body, and to help others to view their own bodies through a lens of understanding and self-love.  I am certified yoga teacher and certified in the NIA Technique.  I am a black belt in Hapkido (a traditional Korean martial art), and have trained extensively in SunMuDo (Zen Buddhist martial arts) while living at a monastery in South Korea.  These unique experiences have taught me that diligence is necessary for change, but it doesn’t need to be intimidating.  In a work out, I enjoy adding elements of all these disciplines.

About Jill Bruyere (Trainer, Lincoln Park 6 am):    jill

My love of sports and fitness started early on when at the age of 5 I started playing soccer.  I found that I loved running and loved the competition.  I took my skills and passion and played premiere, high school, and division 1 collegiate soccer.  In college, I earned my degree in Exercise Physiology and a certification as a health and fitness instructor through the American College of Sports Medicine.  The last 9 years I have gained experience as a personal trainer and group leader at the Washington Athletic Club and am eager to bring training out into the outdoor environment!

My involvement in sports instilled a lifetime habit of physical activity.  When I’m not playing soccer I’m outside running.  I have completed completed five marathons.  I love to run because I love being outdoors in the environment.

My true passion in the fitness industry is to help as many people as I can live a healthy and vibrant lifestyle.  My goal is to help people find their fitness passion and develop a life long habit of physical activity.  I personally enjoy working out because it is a way to relieve stress, challenge my body, be strong, and appreciate the capabilities of my body and I want others to experience this same feeling.
